Andrew Ross Evans

Andrew Ross Evans is a self taught surreal photographer born and raised on Detroit's west side. He has been shooting for over 10 years and exhibiting his work for about one year. Andrew recently made his television debut on PBS's Metro Arts in October 2015. He uses surreal images to express himself and create a narrative for viewers to follow. In the words of local art examiner Alonso Del Arte "Portraits form the strongest part of Evans's portfolio, as he puts his technical skill in the service of an almost ethereal metaphysical expressiveness," "The most meticulous craftsman of the camera in Detroit might also be the youngest." Andrew started with a point and shoot digital camera at the age of 13 and transitioned into film photography around the age of 16.

He carries the discipline and precision he learned in the dark room into his current digital work, favoring previsualization, optical illusion, and sleight of hand over image manipulation in post. Evans's always says "If I can't do it in the dark room I won't do it in photoshop."

"My only goal in life is to share my vision with the world. There is beauty in every moment and I was born to capture it. What is the point of beauty if it is bound by mortality? Life is fleeting, I've been dying since the day I was born. Humans, plants, buildings, everything ends, everything dies. I photograph to cheat death, to immortalize a moment in time."  - Andrew Ross Evans
